Hyatt Regency Hua HinHua Hin is about a 3 hour drive from Bangkok. Once out of the city, the drive is pretty easy and there are a few interesting things to see enroute, such as the famous floating market and the train market in Maeklong. The town of Hua Hin is the location of the Thai Royal Family's summer palace and is a popular holiday destination with Thais and foreigners alike.
The Hyatt has direct access to Hua Hin's 5km of sandy beaches and is a wonderful resort-style property with numerous activities to keep holiday-makers of all ages amused. The resort offers accommodation either within the main hotel or in their residential spa, the Barai, which we have reviewed separately. On arrival at the hotel, you are welcomed by smiling staff and offered a refreshing drink and a cold towel. The open lobby has views over the gardens and the elephant fountain, so sitting here during check-in really whets your appetite for your stay ahead. Throughout the hotel, gardens are beautifully manicured and staff are friendly. I doubt you will be disappointed if you stay here. Regency Executive SuiteImmediately on entering the Regency Executive suite you are struck with a very pleasant airy sense of space. In the hallway itslf is a large cocktail cabinet with small bottles of premium spirits and full sized wine (charged) as well as water and soft drinks and snacks. Opposite is a good-sized powder room. The lounge itself has a comfy sofa large enough for three as well as an easy chair. Beyond is the balcony, which is the width of both lounge and bedroom together, furnished with two small dining tables and chairs to match.
The bedroom is equally spacious and feels even more so with the sliding panel to the bathroom open. There is a walk-in wardrobe off the bedroom adjacent to the bathroom with space for suitcases. The bathroom has separate bath and shower. The bath is ample sized for most guests and with the sliding panel open you can enjoy views across the verandah to the gardens beyond whilst soaking. Alternatively the shower cubicle is also large and has a rain-shower head. Fittings are to a high standard, everything looks new and there are nice touches like the tropical flowers to make it feel homely. Dining
The hotel offers a great choice of restaurants. The main restaurant for breakfast is Figs, which also offers Italian food, although we preferred the a la carte breakfast at McFarland House. In addition to offering breakfast, McFarland House provides Mango Afternoon Tea (a steal at Baht 300 pp) and evening tapas and drinks (complementary for Barai suite guests). For casual dining, You and Mee, situated poolside, is perfect for lunchtime noodles. Talay Thai serves authentic Thai cuisine - we can also recommend taking a cooking class here. We loved learning to cook Phad Thai, spicy garouper and mango salad and bananas in coconut milk, especially as this was a private dining course. Also of note is the fountain lounge near reception, which offers a variety of wine for Baht 99 per glass during Happy Hour.
One of the highlights of our stay was the romantic meal on the beach, cooked by McFarland House. Candles lit our way to a beautifully set table, compete with arranged flowers and our unique menu. Service for the dinner was fantastic, and the food was beautifully presented and very good quality. Although not cheap at Baht 7000 for 2, the price does include 2 glasses of champagne and a bottle of wine (from a choice of 4). The romantic dinner is a must-do for anyone celebrating a special occasion, or just celebrating being in Hua Hin. It must be one of the best settings on Earth to propose. Overall Impression |
Club Deluxe RoomSo far, we have only stayed in the Barai pool suites. However, we asked to view a Club Deluxe room to see what the hotel itself was like. These rooms are similar to the balconies Club rooms above but are located on the ground floor and are slightly bigger, having the space of the balcony above incorporated into the room, plus an outdoor terrace. Really these could be described as junior suites.
On entering the room, you first notice the 2 seating areas: one is inside and one outside as a terrace. This terrace is a great feature with space for lounging or dining. The bathroom is well equipped with a separate rain-shower and bath, which offers the option of an open bathroom. The standard upgrade for diamond members is to a Club room, which is similar to the Club Deluxe room but located on higher floors. These are similar in design but have only 1 seating area: either a balcony or a loggia. These rooms are perfectly adequate, and are a good size for just a room. However, if you are staying for an extended period, we would recommend upgrading to a suite. Regency ClubThe Regency Club is a beautiful open-air dining and relaxing space for people staying in club rooms or suites, and diamond guests. In addition to the normal food and beverage offerings, the club offers a swimming pool which is usable only by those with Regency Club access. Although smaller than the general-use pool, this offers a quieter area for adults to sun-bathe, swim laps or generally relax.
A continental breakfast is offered in the club lounge, as well as hot Asian dishes or eggs to order. Throughout the day an interesting variety of fruit is available, including many we couldn't identify! In the evening, there is an impressive range of canapés, including a couple of hot items, smoked fish, salads, cheese and desserts (both Western and Thai). For drinks, there is a choice of 2 red wines, 2 white wine or spirits, as well as soft drinks. The Regency Club in Hua Hin is a great space and we strongly recommend it. However, if you are staying in the Barai, we would recommend using McFarland House instead, which offers a more personal service and higher quality canapés in the evening.

The Hyatt Regency Hua Hin is a fantastic resort property in a beautiful location on the Gulf of Thailand. Generally, the weather is warm and sunny and the sea calm, making this an ideal holiday destination. In addition to the sandy beach, there are a number of cultural activities to enjoy in and around Hua Hin, and the town is within easy reach of Bangkok, making it ideal for a split location trip. The hotel itself is well-run and offers a variety of accommodation to suit most budgets. In addition, if you want a location where you don't need to leave the resort, the Hyatt Regency is perfect as it offers a wide range of activities, beautiful landscaped gardens and a vast swimming pool complex. We love the hotel and recommend you visit to experience it for yourself.
