Hyatt Regency DüsseldorfThe Regency in Düsseldorf is the most recent addition to the German Hyatt portfolio. Prior to staying, we were not sure what to expect, but the hotel turned out to be rather good. Our first stay was for a single night prior to our Etihad First class flight to AUH, but we were so impressed we have since stayed multiple times. The hotel is in a quiet, attractive area of Düsseldorf, surrounded by the harbour. It is a very pleasant stroll from the hotel along the river and into Düsseldorf (although less scenic when you reach the city centre).
On arrival at the hotel, we were shown from our taxi to the reception, past numerous Lamborghinis (turns out there was an owners' club event on). The hotel is modern and we found the decor attractive. The overall feeling of the hotel was very similar to Hyatt Capital Gate in Abu Dhabi - I wonder why Düsseldorf is categorised as a Regency whereas Capital Gate is branded as a Hyatt? On this short stay, we were unable to use any of the facilities, other than the Regency Club Lounge. There is also a small but well equipped gym, attractive spa, very quiet lounge, cool bars and an interesting looking restaurant. Spa and LeisureOn the morning of our departure, we briefly stopped by the 2nd-floor spa to inspect the facilities on offer.
The hotel has a reasonable-sized gym with high quality Technogym equipment, each with a personal monitor. There was only one person in the fitness room when we visited, thus it seems likely that there will be no problems with machine availability. The spa has a number of treatment rooms, a Vichy shower (wonderful things - multiple shower heads pound you with warm water as you lie down) a whirlpool and saunas. In addition, there is a very pleasant relaxation area and a beautiful outdoor terrace. This would be perfect for a cocktail reception in summer, or for cooling down after the saunas in winter. In our opinion, one of the few things missing from this hotel is a swimming pool. Naturally, we don't know the budget or engineering constraints. However, it seems that there would have been plenty of room for a small pool with a beautiful view over the harbour. Overall Impression |
Regency Suite KingOn check-in, we were surprised to learn that we had been upgraded to a suite (we booked a standard room). This suite was on the corner, with views over the Rhine and Mediahafen. Although the individual rooms in the suite were not over large, there was an overall feeling of spaciousness - partly because of the enormous picture windows, again, very similar to the suites in Capital Gate.
Entry to the suite takes you straight into the lounge area, where the desk is also situated. Unusually for an entry-level suite, there was also a guest cloakroom available. A large bowl of flat white peaches were provided - these were even ripe! Adjacent to the lounge was the bedroom and a long passage with wardrobes down one side (providing plenty of storage space) led to the bathroom. Here, there was a wet-room style area with large shower and deep bath behind glass, a separate enclosed toilet and the sink area. The beaten-metal sinks were a nice feature and we didn't have any problems with water overflowing or splashing, as often happens if sinks are 'form-over-function'. We had no problems with air-conditioning in the room. However, internet was on the slow side in the bedroom. For a business hotel, this needs improving. Club LoungeThis is possibly the best Hyatt Club lounge in Germany. Service in the lounge was superb, down to the attendant knowing our name (including the correct title, which is not on our account and rarely remembered) when we mentioned out room number. Wine glasses were frequently topped up and other drinks offered. The attendant was warm and friendly, and happy to persevere with our basic German skills.
Although only sparkling wine (Stefan Breuer Spätburgunder Weißherbst Sekt Brut) rather than champagne was provided, it had obviously been carefully chosen and was high quality (retails at €13.50). There was plenty of choice for food in the evening (salad, Asian-style marinated prawns, roasted Mediterranean vegetables, roast chicken with lentils, smoked salmon, wurst, home-style pizza and a range of desserts) and we had enough for dinner. Breakfast was continental in the morning, however there were a few hot items, such as Weißwurst available. |
The Hyatt Regency in Düsseldorf is an excellent addition to the Hyatt European portfolio. On our stay, the rate was around €110, which is great value, especially when taking the club lounge access for diamond members into account. The service we encountered could not be faulted, although we did not have any particular requirements on this stay. If fast internet is necessary to you, I would advise enquiring which rooms have better access, or using the club lounge internet which was faster. Based on our short experience, we can whole-heartedly recommend the Hyatt in Düsseldorf and look forward to returning soon.
