Green Park Hotel, VientianeNeeding a brief overnight stay in Vientiane as our flight from Luang Prabang to Bangkok connected in the capital, we were unsure where to stay. There are no international luxury hotels in the city and we wanted somewhere clean with air-conditioning. A quick check on TripAdvisor gave us a shortlist and, on a hunch, we chose the Green Park Boutique Hotel. At around $120 a night, the hotel provided a good value base for a couple of nights in Vientiane or an overnight layover.
A short taxi ride from the airport brought us to the hotel in the evening. Our rate included breakfast but we were leaving early in the morning, so the hotel kindly offered to make us lunch boxes. Unfortunately, it turned out that we couldn't eat many of the contents due to allergies, but this was a kind gesture. |
Classic RoomCheck-in was quick and staff carried our heavy suitcase up the stairs to our first floor Classic Room. Although this had a balcony, we were advised not to use it at night due to mosquitos. However, the room was a good size (around 45 square metres) and very clean. We were also pleasantly surprised by the speed and quality of the room service food we ordered.
Peering out in the morning, we saw the pretty pool (a gym and spa treatments are also available) and wished we had stayed longer. For families, the Executive Suites provide 2 bedrooms and a living/dining area. However, our pick would be the 78 square metre Deluxe Suite complete with double balconies overlooking the swimming pool, a spacious living area with table for in-room dining and a mini private tropical garden in the bathroom. |
Overall Impression
The Green Park Boutique hotel in Vientiane was a solid choice and one we would recommend in a city with no true luxury options. The hotel offers great value with large rooms, complimentary breakfast, a free shuttle to the city centre, fresh fruit in room and complimentary airport transfers. This is a very brief review and we didn't stay long enough to get a full impression, but reviews on TripAdvisor paint a picture of a hotel offering friendly smiles and service beyond the necessary. The hotel felt a little bigger than we were expecting and the blocks a little downmarket compared to what we are used to, but when considering the rate and the location, we were pleased we had chosen Green Park.
